After a year-long career gap, the former Manchester United goalkeeper Dikia has finally turned a corner. Serie A powerhouse Ferrentina officially announced that it has agreed a one-year deal with the 33-year-old Spanish goalkeeper, with an option to extend his contract for more than a year. In the early hours of August 18th, Ferentina will challenge Parma on the road, when D'Aguiar is expected to make his debut in his first Serie A match.
Recently, Dickia has been rumored with Genoa, Monza and other Serie A teams, and finally he chose to join Felentina. Although his annual salary has dropped to 1 million euros (about HK$8.5 million), which is a far cry from the 19.5 million pounds (about HK$190 million) he earned at Manchester United, a drop of up to 95%, Dikia's annual salary is expected to double to 2 million euros when he renews his contract until the second season if he can perform well in the season.
Despite winning the 2022/23 Premier League Goalkeeper of the Year award and the Golden Gloves award last season, United eventually opted to drop Dikia due to salary issues.
In fact, a number of Saudi Arabian giants had lured Dikia with offers of high salaries, but he declined them all. He chose to reunite with his family and stayed in Europe's top five leagues even though it meant a 95% reduction in salary, a decision that seems to have been motivated more by his love of soccer than anything else.
