Wolves are embarking on a stretch run in Spain and a sudden racial abuse row erupted in the early hours of Wednesday morning (16) during a friendly match against Serie A side Como. Wolves' South Korean striker Hwang Hee-chan reportedly accused himself of racial abuse, and friction ensued between the two players. Cormu subsequently issued a statement acknowledging that a player had made the accusation against Hwang, but emphasized that the comment about "tying himself to a dragon" was not racist.

Despite the controversy, Wolves narrowly won 1-0 in the warm-up. Midway through the second half, Hwang Hee Chan expressed his displeasure at the racial abuse he suffered. Wolves captain Garry O'Neill said after the match that he had planned to withdraw from the game, but Hwang Hee Chan insisted on finishing the match. It was rumored that Hwang Hee Chan's complaint triggered a clash between the two players, for which Wolves player Pudens was red-carded.

The Kormu team released a statement following the new promotion, explaining the incident and counter-accusing the Wolves of overreacting. The Wolves confirmed that at the time of the incident, the player in question only responded to Wong Hei Chan's nickname "Channy" with the phrase "Well, when you're Jackie Chan yourself, huh? (Jackie Chan)" in response to Wong Hei Chan's nickname "Channy", and said it was not a racial slur or a put-down, but rather an overreaction to a minor incident by a Wolves player.
