As the Europa League dawned, Italy were hit by a bolt of lightning when 20-year-old defensive midfielder Scavini suffered a major injury in Serie A action on Monday (3) after a promising two weeks at Atalanta. He was unfortunate enough to suffer an injury during the match, and the news that he has been diagnosed with a ruptured ligament in his left knee has come as a bolt from the blue, costing him the chance to play in the final week of the Europa League in the summer, and the whole of the first half of the season.

Scavini was not only a pillar of Atalanta's backline, but also a contributor to the Europa League title and fourth place in Serie A. His name was on Italy's preliminary 30-man Europa League squad. However, despite his best efforts in Monday's Serie A match at home, a sprained knee at the end of the game sent him out in tears. Tests showed that his recovery will take at least half a year.

Unfortunately, what happened to Scavini is the same as what happened to Inter Milan stalwart Francesco Arshabi, who retired due to injury, which undoubtedly dealt a heavy blow to Scavini's family. According to sources, Juventus' Gatti is ready to take Scavini's place at any time.
