In the week of the 21st, the Argentine national team's squad for the Americas summer tournament was officially unveiled. Although the name of Roma striker Paulo Dabbana is unexpectedly absent from the squad led by Lionel Messi, many of the world champion's stars continue to shine. Looking back at Argentina's last win (Copa America 2021), they are once again in the spotlight. Not only did Argentina beat the winning team of the 2022 World Cup this past year, but they are on track to make it a three-peat in international tournaments.
Argentina's captain Scarroni unveiled the 29-man preliminary squad today. Three players are expected to be eliminated before the final list is submitted on June 12th. The list includes such world-class stars as Lionel Messi, Dybala, Rafael Nadal, Martinez, Ansu Fernandez and Lisindo Martinez. In addition, they have brought in three young talents: Brighton's Valentin Baggao, Monza's Kabonny and Manchester United's Alejandro Ganadzu.
However, Paulo Dybana's fall from grace was certainly a shock. The Roma striker missed a number of games due to a muscle injury, but has made a successful comeback and performed well, contributing 13 assists in the league and dishing out nine assists during his time with Porto. It is reported that this year's Copa America could be the 36-year-old Messi's last international competition. And "old friend" Dybala also announced earlier, after the Copa America will quit the national team.
