In a star-studded night of African soccer, a gala awards ceremony kicked off at the crack of dawn on Tuesday (12). In the glittering ceremony, young striker Vitor Osungham of Napoli emerged as the first Nigerian winner of the African Footballer of the Year in 24 years, beating out rising Liverpool superstar Mohammed Shana and Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Ashuraw to the title.
At just 24 years of age, Vitor Ossenhan made his mark in Serie A last season, not only helping Napoli return to the top of the table and win the long overdue league title, but also winning the Ballon d'Or award with 26 goals and finishing eighth in the Ballon d'Or voting. However, at this award ceremony organized by CAF, he succeeded in realizing his dream of reaching the highest podium in the soccer world.
