Vidal Osungham, the 24-year-old Nigerian star was at one point this summer the center of attention for many top clubs. Although he eventually chose to stay with Napoli, the two sides did not agree on a contract extension. It was reported that Ossenhan's demand for an annual salary doubled to €9 million (HK$74.5 million), an amount that displeased Napoli's management. They did not even rule out the possibility of selling him next summer, when clubs such as Liverpool and Chelsea are already coveting the talented striker.
In the last season, Ossenhan played 39 matches for Napoli and scored 31 goals, including an amazing 26 goals in the Serie A. He was honored as the Serie A top scorer. So far this season, he has made eight Serie A appearances and has scored six goals. During the summer transfer window, Manchester United, Paris Saint-Germain and Saudi Arabian clubs were interested in acquiring him, but Napoli's transfer fee of 150 million euros (HK$1.24 billion) deterred potential buyers.
With only one and a half years left on his current contract, Napoli are eager to sign him to a new long-term deal and have set a €200 million (HK$1.66 billion) break fee. However, Ossenhan himself believes that this amount is too high and may affect his future transfer options. As a result, he hopes to reduce the amount of the contract breakage fee and insists on an increase in his annual salary from the current 4.5 million euros to 9 million euros.
