French soccer superstar Paul Puba has recently been hit with a drug-testing controversy and could face a ban of up to four years if the allegations are substantiated. According to ESPN, Puba may have fallen into this predicament by accidentally consuming nutritional supplements containing banned ingredients, and his current club Juventus is weighing whether to terminate his contract early.
In a drug test following the Serie A season opener, Puba's testosterone levels were outside of the normal range, leading to his immediate suspension. He is currently awaiting the results of a B-sample, which normally does not differ significantly from an A-sample, and ESPN further revealed that Puba, with the assistance of a doctor friend, had purchased some supplements in Miami that are banned for sale in Italy and contain testosterone. Puba unknowingly took these supplements, which triggered the incident.
