Serie A great Vincenzo, announced on a surprise Sunday (13th) that he was stepping down as coach of the Italian national team, a move that quickly ignited the Saudi soccer world. According to veteran Italian sports journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, the Saudi Arabian Football Association (SFA) was quick to extend an olive branch, offering Vincennes a salary of up to 18 million euros (HK$154 million) a year to take charge of the Saudi national team.
Vicentini has a great track record in his coaching career, having led Inter Milan to three Serie A titles, and was also the coach responsible for Manchester City's first Premier League triumph. Two years ago, he helped the Italian national team to taste the sweetness of the UEFA Nations Cup after 53 years, although they failed to make it to the final round of the last World Cup.
