Serie A giants Juventus will soon welcome a "second generation" new recruit - Timofey Weah. According to Italian media reports, Juve has reached an agreement with Lille FC to bring in the 23-year-old winger for a transfer fee of 12 million euros (about HK$100 million). Timofey Weah comes from a famous family, his father Weah was once the legendary AC Milan football star, is now the president of Liberia. The "little Weah" will be following in his father's footsteps in the Serie A this time.
The "Old Weah" has played for Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), AC Milan, Manchester City and other top clubs, the most brilliant period is from 1995 to 2000 when he played for AC Milan, during which he won the Golden Ball Award and Mr. World Football. Timofey Weah started his career at PSG, but failed to surpass his father's performance. He was briefly loaned to Celtic, and then moved to Lille 4 years ago, where he has only scored 8 goals and contributed 8 assists in 107 appearances so far, and last season he failed to register any goals in 32 matches.
In light of this, Juventus' decision to bring in Timofey Weah has raised many questions, with the general consensus being that coach Arriki will probably only use him as a substitute, hardly comparable to the brilliant achievements of the "old Weah" at AC Milan.
It is worth noting that unlike his father, who played for the Liberian national team, Timofee Weah was born in the United States and chose to represent the U.S. national team and played in last year's World Cup.
