Fran Torres, aged just 21, has made a magnificent move from Manchester City to Barcelona for a transfer fee of up to £55 million. European media revealed that if Torres moves again in the future, a release clause of up to 1 billion euros (about 840 million pounds) will be activated.
As recently as Sunday night local time, Torres released training footage from his hometown of Valencia, where he has completed a medical at the Camp Nou and is expected to sign a five-year transfer deal with Barcelona shortly.
The Spain international expressed his desire to return to Spain to Pep Guardiola earlier this month, and despite few first-team opportunities, the not-so-wealthy Barcelona generously agreed to pay a £46.7m transfer fee with a number of foreign incentives clauses. The contract specifies that City will receive a transfer share of £8.5 million should Torres leave Barcelona in the future.
City's sporting director, Begiristain, said, "Fran should be proud of what he has achieved at City, he adapted quite well to his new country for the first time last season and he gave his all to contribute to the team's title-winning campaign. Unfortunately injuries have prevented him from playing more games, Fran is an outstanding player and I wish him all the best at Barcelona."
It's worth noting that Torres joined Manchester City from Valencia in the summer of 2020 for a £20.8 million transfer fee.
