The recently proposed Mulè amendment triggered the
FIFA
(FIFA) and the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) are highly concerned, and the two bodies have issued a warning to the Italian Football Federation (FIBA) that the amendment, if implemented, could deprive Italy of the right to host UEFA EURO 2032 and prohibit its domestic teams from participating in European competitions. The amendment, which seeks to give greater autonomy to Italian leagues at all levels, similar to the model of the English Premier League and the English Football Association, could, in the eyes of FIFA and UEFA, violate existing soccer governing regulations.
Ansa news agency reports that FIFA and UEFA have made it clear that if the Mulè amendment is adopted in its current or similar form, they will have to consider drastic measures including suspending Italy from the competition and revoking its right to host Euro 2032. In response, Italy's Sports Minister Andrea Abodi said the amendment needed to be reconsidered and emphasized the need to reformulate it to avoid potential sanctions.
