German media outlet Bild-Zeitung reported that the new season
Bundesliga
A rule similar to that of the Europa League will be used, allowing only captains to communicate with the referee on the field.
The decision was confirmed at Thursday's DFB meeting, which was attended by Ronnie Zimmermann, the DFB's vice-president in charge of refereeing, and new refereeing director Knut Kircher.
UEFA introduced this rule during the UEFA Europa League in order to avoid players gathering and causing chaos on the pitch. The rule will also be implemented in the Bundesliga, Bundesliga B, Bundesliga C and regional leagues from the new season.
The Bundesliga has not yet explicitly dealt with the special situation when the goalkeeper is the captain, so as not to require the goalkeeper to cross the pitch to communicate with the referee every time a controversy occurs, which could lead to delays in the game.
