Mid-table Millwall and Leeds United face off this Sunday. Hosts Millwall are currently 12th in the table, while visitors Leeds United are in 15th place, despite being unbeaten in three consecutive matches.
Having missed out on the playoffs in 2022-23, Gary Rowett faces the daunting task of revitalizing morale, especially considering many of his players have stayed at the club. Their three consecutive defeats against Bristol City, Reading and Norwich City, as well as conceding a total of eight goals in those games, gave the impression that the season could be a long one for the Lions. However, since then they have picked up four points against Stoke City and Birmingham City, with the 1-0 win against Stoke City being their second win by that scoreline this season.
While Millwall still boast one of the worst attacking records in the Championship, their defense is among the best, with three of the five goals they conceded coming in a 3-1 loss against Norwich. Alan Campbell and Ryan Longman moved from Luton Town and Hull City before the closure of the summer transfer window and Rowett will hope they can help Millwall improve their attack.
Leeds United have also been very busy at the tail end of the transfer market, bringing in Ilija Grove, Glen Kamara and Jaden Anthony to replace Cody Delamme, Sam Greenwood and Luis Sinistra. As of right now, it's unclear who made the better deals, but head coach Daniel Farke will surely be happy to finally be working with a solid team. Amassing just six points from five games wasn't exactly what Farke was hoping for, with their only win coming in a 4-3 comeback victory at Ipswich Town. That win was followed by their first clean sheet of the season at home to Sheffield United, although that 0-0 draw was a huge disappointment for their supporters ahead of International Day.
Our prediction is that Leeds United will beat Millwall 2-1. Despite both teams improving in recent matches, this will be a competitive game and the hosts may be confident of a win. However, even though Leeds United are still in a transitional period with Farke, we expect them to come out on top with more firepower in the game at the Dane.
