Segovia is the capital of the province of Segovia in the Autonomous Community of Castilla y León, a small, ancient and refined city famous for its 2,000-year-old Roman aqueducts and the aroma of its roast suckling pig, which, along with the aqueducts, is listed as a World Heritage Site.
The Roman Elevated Diversion Bridge, built in the 1st century AD, is a symbol of Segovia and one of the best-protected monuments of the Roman Empire to date. Used to draw water to the higher ground areas of the city, the 728-meter-long bridge, with 166 holes, was constructed entirely of massive stone blocks, without the use of any mortar or cement.
