In a recent interview, England manager Gareth Southgate candidly shared his attitude towards social issues and the controversies he experienced during the Euros. As a coach who not only commands the field, but also advocates for social justice off the field, Southgate's words and actions have undoubtedly set a new benchmark for the soccer world.

Southgate has been a staunch supporter of the kneeling protests and has bravely stood up to criticize racism, not only against foreign countries, but also to address the problems that exist within the UK. He is aware of his status and influence and therefore sees it as his duty to pass on the values of diversity and inclusion. Although this stance has earned him rebuke and criticism from some, with some even suggesting that he should focus on soccer itself, Southgate is adamant: "I don't regret it because it's a position that requires responsibility. I had the opportunity to make a difference in something important, I have my values and I never want to impose them on others. But I think there are some basic human values and if you have the opportunity to demonstrate them then you should do so."

During the Europa League, Southgate not only endured pressure from the field of play, but also encountered irrational behavior from some extreme fans, such as booing and throwing beer cans. However, he did not let this deter him or change his original intention, but instead hoped that his team's performance in the tournament would bring inspiration and strength to those facing difficulties and challenges. "If I help some of the kids, some of the adults, who have felt criticism or other difficulties over the last few weeks, and we show that there's a way to overcome those difficulties and show perseverance, then things can change quickly."

Southgate also expressed his concerns about the state of British society and his hopes for the future. "We live in an angry country," he confessed, "and I hope that will be different as we move forward. Hopefully we can bring some temporary happiness, but we won't change our country either, and maybe we can set some good examples."
