England defender Trent Arnold has expressed his unwavering support for captain Harry Kane and emphasized the importance of teamwork to the team's success in an interview as England head into their Euro semi-final against the Netherlands.
Responding to criticism of Kane despite scoring two goals at this year's Euros, Arnold said, "Any player playing against England would like to see Kane not play. He's the highest goal scorer in England's history and that says enough about him." Arnold believes that Kane's contribution on the pitch goes far beyond scoring goals, as he leads by example as captain and leader, giving his all to the game and creating a good team atmosphere for the team.
Arnold further praised Kane's all-round ability: "He can finish from any angle and is the best goal scorer I have ever seen or worked with. He can find a goal from anywhere, as well as drop back and organize the attack, and has excellent ball control." These comments are certainly high praise for Kane's individual ability.
Speaking about his changing role at the Euros, Arnold showed great professionalism and team spirit. He said, "From the beginning of the tournament, our message was that all 26 players were needed. The coach had to choose a lineup and we all respected his decision." Arnold admits that he wants to keep his place in the team and start every game, but at the same time understands and respects the coach's choices. He believes that the success of the team is always the most important thing and that players have to fit in to contribute to the team at crucial moments.
On the upcoming semifinals, Arnold said his team is ready: "We are looking forward to the semifinals, the team always comes first. We have to go all out to beat the Dutch to make it to the final." Talking about how to beat Van Dyke, the core defender of the Dutch team, Arnold humbly said that he could not offer much advice, but he believed that his team could find a way to break through their opponents.
